What is Employer Sponsored Subclass 482 Visa?

The employer sponsored TSS visa 482 is a temporary work visa that lets Australian employers sponsor appropriately skilled workers from overseas to fill a position, provided that they were not able to find a suitably skilled local employee to fill said job vacancy.

It has three streams, namely:

  • Short-term stream
  • Medium-term stream
  • Labour agreement stream

Short-term stream

Key features:

  • Lets you stay up to 2 years
  • Unrestricted travel to and from Australia while visa is valid
  • Study (but without government assistance)
  • Become eligible for permanent residence after 2 or more years

Key conditions:

  • Hold a substantive visa or a bridging visa A, B, or C
  • Receive nomination from an approved sponsor
  • You must work for the employer who nominated you
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Nominated occupation must be listed under the short-term skilled occupations
  • Undergo positive skills assessment if mandated
  • Satisfy English proficiency, health, and character standards
  • Intend to work in Australia temporarily and on a short-term basis only
  • No age restrictions

Medium-term Stream

Key features:

  • Live and work in Australia for up to 4 years
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times you want while visa is valid
  • Pursue studies without government subsidy
  • Qualify for permanent residency after 2 or more years

Key conditions:

  • Have a substantive visa or a bridging visa A, B, or C
  • Be nominated by an approved sponsor
  • Work for the employer who sponsored your visa
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Your nominated occupation must be in the medium to long-term skilled occupation list
  • You must undergo positive skills assessment, unless exempted
  • Meet English proficiency, health, and character requirements
  • Keen to work in Australia only on a temporary basis
  • No age limit for this visa

Labour agreement stream

Key features:

  • Reside and work in Australia for up to 4 years
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times while visa is valid
  • Study here without financial support from government 
  • Get sponsored for permanent work visa (subclass 186) by your employer

Key conditions:

  • Your sponsoring employer must have a labour agreement with the Australian Government
  • Be nominated by an approved employer
  • Have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
  • Meet basic English proficiency, health, and character criteria

Processing Times and Fees for Employer Sponsored 482 Visa

Standard processing times usually vary by individual circumstances, visa application volume, and how complete an applicant’s submitted requirements are.

But as published in the Department of Home Affairs’ website, this is the current processing times for the employer sponsored visa 482:

  • Short-term stream - 23 days to 3 Months
  • Medium stream - 25 Days to 3 Months
  • Labour agreement - 30 Days to 4 Months

Meanwhile, current fees are as follows, which do NOT include other potential costs associated with health and character checks:

Short-term Stream:

  • Main applicant - AUD1,455 
    Secondary applicant 18 years of age and over - AUD1,455
    Secondary applicant below 18 years old - AUD365

Medium stream and labour agreement:

  • Main applicant - AUD3,035 
  • Secondary applicant 18 years of age and over - AUD3,035
  • Secondary applicant below 18 years old - AUD760
