This is the story of Kamalini, a 15-year-old girl from a tribal village in Odisha, and how she fought against trafficking with her bravery and presence of mind. Kamalini, who belonged to a marginalised community and had no job prospects in her village, was lured by a trafficker with a fake job offer in Bengaluru. She was being taken to Kerala by train along with five other girls. 


However, having attended Bal Raksha Bharat's (also known as Save the Children) life skill education sessions in her village, Kamalini stood up to the trafficker and alerted the ticket checker 9xflix. This led to the police rescuing all six girls and the trafficker being arrested. The life skill education sessions that Kamalini had attended had taught her about the dangers of human trafficking and how to protect herself. They also gave her the confidence to speak up and ask for help when in danger. 


Kamalini benefited from her foresight and the support of NGOs like Bal Raksha Bharat to guide her. In this light, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is the perfect occasion for organisations around the world to educate people, especially young children, about the dangers of trafficking and provide them with the knowledge and skills to stay safe and make informed decisions about their lives.
